What is a Leadership Evolvement Coach?

A Leadership Evolvement Coach is a trusted professional who focuses on the deeper internal work of a leader, otherwise known as “vertical development”. While horizontal development focuses on broadening skill acquisition and development, vertical development works with the internal world of the leader. Transformational change within an individual requires an examination of the deeply held thoughts, beliefs, and worldviews accompanied by the willingness to shift the perspective, widening the mental model landscape from which a leader operates. This broadening of perspective increases the capacity of the leader to more effectively hold multiple viewpoints, a skill necessary for dealing with the ever-increasing complexities of today’s world.

Why is Leadership Evolvement Coaching necessary?

We live in a world where confusion, complexity, chaos are the norm and a creative mindset, agile responsivity, balancing tensions, leveraging resources, and expansive thinking are a necessity, otherwise known as the “Four-‘C-ABLE’ Future”. Many of the skills and ways of thinking used to solve previous problems no longer work and new learning must take place in order for the leader to best adapt and approach the challenges of today and beyond. Leadership Evolvement Coaching engages leaders in a process to increase awareness of the unconscious patterns of behavior which can prevent access to the development of new skills and the mindset shift needed to address these challenges.

What happens in a Leadership Evolvement Coaching Session?

Each session is tailored to the client and will vary based on individual needs. In the beginning, we will discuss what you are committed to accomplishing through our work together and we will begin to create a plan to achieve your goals. The use of assessments can facilitate the deepening of the self-awareness necessary for the evolvement process. These assessments are not required, however, the insight gleaned through the assessments helps to bring to conscious awareness blind spots and unproductive behaviors. Each assessment does involve an additional fee beyond the cost of the session. Periodically, I will give you assignments to help direct your progress. Often these assignments involve some sort of daily practice to deepen the experience and facilitate embodiment. We will work together to acknowledge obstacles, explore alternate perspectives and celebrate successes. With the conclusion of each session, we will revisit your goals and evaluate the next steps that are needed to achieve these results.

What is an "embodied approach" and why is that important?

It has been said, "Our experiences live in our bodies, whether we know it or not." I want to suggest, Our Leadership lives on our bodies, whether we know it or not. The notion of a mind-body-spirit connection reaches back to ancient teachings and practices of both Eastern and Western philosophies and religions. The separation of the two occurred in Western philosophy around the 17th century and the mind was treated separately from the body. More recent research into the connection between the brain and the body, especially with the developments forwarded by neuroscience, is revealing the two entities do not function separately but rather are an interconnected phenomenon. While this continues to be a topic of debate in some circles, the bridging together of the psychological understanding , on the conscious level, and the bio-functional approach, where unconscious, automatic, and or intuitive cognitions reside, is helping to bring a deeper sense of awareness and understanding. This expansion of consciousness offers a unique opportunity to leaders. Through this mind-body interconnection, we are able to master complex actions and interactions in such a way that they become automatic or second nature. In other words, we just do it without conscious thought. This learned embodiment is a critical skill for leaders operating in the "Four-'C'-ABLE" future. The need for leaders to be creative, respond in an agile manner, balance the tensions of competing ideas and values, leverage their resources, and expand their thinking requires them to be grounded and connected emotionally, yet rationally objective. Embodying the grounding practices of calm in the midst of chaos, allows the leader greater access to innovative solutions to complex challenges. Leadership Evolvement Coaching embeds the bridging together of mind and body in order to achieve this objective.

How is Coaching different from Therapy?

While the Leadership Evolvement Coaching I provide can be therapeutic, it is not therapy. Coaching is distinct from traditional therapy because it is not designed to address psychological issues. While emotional issues may arise, the primary focus of life coaching is to help you identify your goals, achieve them, and develop constructive habits and skills. There is little emphasis placed on the past with coaching, but instead the focus is on creating what you want now and in the future.

What is the cancellation policy?

I require a 24 hour notice to cancel all sessions. Please be sure to contact me if you will not be able to make your scheduled appointment in order to avoid being charged for the session.

How long do people generally work with a Leadership Evolvement Coach?

To experience the effectiveness of the Leadership Evolvement Coaching program, I suggest clients make an initial three-month commitment. At the end of the three months, we will evaluate progress and discuss options for continued coaching. Typically leaders engage in coaching for 6-12 months with sessions occurring once a month with in-between practice built in. Discounted packages are available for 6, 9, and 12- month contracts.

Is personal life coaching confidential?

What we discuss will be held in confidence and not shared with others. However, our discussions are not privileged for legal purposes. The privilege of confidentiality that exists for the clergy, therapists and attorneys is not granted to coaching professionals. That said, life coaching is a confidential process, and your personal information will always be protected.
